Tasks in work package 4
In work package 4 mussel meal and silage will be tested as animal feed.
Mussel meal/silage will be fed to piglets at a private organic pig farm (UHF) in which the effects on production traits and diarrhea will be studied.
SEGES will run two experiments with organic egg layers fed mussel meal with/without shells at a private organic farm.
DA will compose the organic diets for these experiments.
Effects on eating patterns and satiety by intact and hydrolyzed protein will be studied in piglets at AU ANIS by measurements of feed intake and analyzing blood for biomarkers. The working hypothesis is that mussel products can replace fish meal/silage without loss of production efficiency.
Department of Food Science at Aarhus University will assess egg quality as fatty acid composition, yolk color, eggshell strength and sensory properties.
