Tasks in work package 3
Work package 3 will study mitigation potential and environmental footprint of mussel farming in different estuaries using experimental test production lines, dynamic energy budget (DEB) models and 3D ecosystem models for assessing environmental effects.
The working hypothesis is that environmental impact will vary between sites and that not all estuaries will be equally suited. A site selection tool for optimal location in relation to environmental goals will be developed taking into account spatial variations in e.g. food availability and salinity and environmental impact of mussel farming.
Results will be used for developing a spatial (GIS) model identifying nutrient removal potential provided by mitigation mussel (input to work package 5).
